Southern Coast Academy wasn't built overnight. It was built through years of perseverance, sacrifice, and a belief that student-athletes deserve more than just great coaching; they deserve mentorship, opportunity, and a family committed to helping them succeed in every area of life.

Where the foundation was built. The outdoor courts of Brooklyn shaped the toughness, discipline, and work ethic that remain at the heart of Southern Coast Academy today.
Built From Brooklyn
Long before Southern Coast Academy had a name, its foundation was being built on the outdoor courts of Brooklyn, New York.
For SCA's Founder, Travis Nichols, basketball was more than a game. It was a proving ground. On the city’s playgrounds, respect had to be earned, effort mattered, and no one was guaranteed an opportunity. Those early experiences taught him the values that would eventually shape Southern Coast Academy: discipline, toughness, accountability, and an unwavering belief that consistent work can change a young person’s future.
Travis carried those lessons from the streets of Brooklyn to the NCAA Division I level, earning a full athletic scholarship to St. Francis College. His journey showed him what was possible when talent was paired with structure, sacrifice, and someone willing to believe in your potential.
A New Mission
Like many athletes, Travis dreamed of playing professionally. When that path did not unfold as he had envisioned, basketball presented him with a different opportunity...one that would ultimately become far more meaningful.
He recognized that the lessons he had learned through competition, adversity, and personal sacrifice could help guide the next generation. Young athletes needed more than drills and workouts. They needed honest coaching, clear expectations, mentorship, and an environment that cared about who they were becoming beyond the court.
That belief became the beginning of TNT Training, Travis’s first step toward creating a complete development system for young athletes.

From player to mentor. The lessons Travis learned through Division I competition became the foundation for how SCA develops young athletes today.

Where a vision became a commitment. What began as individual player development grew into a mission to build an environment where student-athletes could thrive.
From Training Players to Building a Home
As Travis worked with more athletes and families, his vision continued to grow. He no longer wanted to simply help players improve their skills. He wanted to build an environment where academics, athletic development, personal responsibility, and mentorship worked together.
That vision led him to California, where he founded SoCal Academy. There, Travis became known not only for developing basketball players, but for building meaningful relationships and helping young people navigate the demands of school, competition, recruiting, and life.
The academy model confirmed something he had believed since his earliest days in Brooklyn: young athletes thrive when they are challenged, supported, and treated like family.
The Beginning of
Southern Coast Academy
Today, that vision continues in Orlando through Southern Coast Academy.
SCA represents the culmination of every chapter of Travis’s journey...from Brooklyn streetball and Division I basketball to individual training, academy leadership, and years of mentoring young athletes.
Southern Coast Academy was created to give student-athletes the structure, flexibility, coaching, and personal support needed to pursue ambitious goals. It is a place where academic progress and athletic development are not competing priorities. They are part of the same mission.
Every student-athlete is encouraged to set clear goals, embrace discipline, overcome adversity, and pursue excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in life.
Because Southern Coast Academy is more than a school.
It is the opportunity, guidance, and sense of belonging that Travis believed every young athlete deserved.

The mission continues. What began on the courts of Brooklyn now impacts the lives of student-athletes every day at Southern Coast Academy.
